Fenghuangling Bridge, the world’s largest cross-river wind and rain bridge with the longest span, saw its main structure erected on February 3. Located in Liuzhou, southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the bridge was built by Shanghai Civil Engineering Co., Ltd. under CREC. The construction supervision was carried out by China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. It is also a steel-concrete continuous beam bridge with box section and the longest span in China.

With construction started in March 19, 2018, the bridge is the first dual-use bridge for expressway and railway in Liuzhou. Designed in a typical Dong ethnic style, the wind and rain bridge measures 2.31 kilometers in length, with its main structure spanning 700 meters. It is scheduled to open for traffic in 2021.

The erection was finished in incremental launching method, which is the key of the bridge building. Engineers had to finish the erection of 55 sections with a total length of 690.9 meters. The project was difficult due to the complex shape, special cross-sections, and large support spacing of the main structure. The first round of incremental launching started on June 3, 2020. (By Chu Minhong and Jian Zhenzhen)
